Housing & Toys

Cage minimum for one or two Sugar Gliders is 20 x20 x 30, with wire spacing 1 x 1/2. But the larger the cage the better. PVC coated wire or powder coat wire is recommended.

Toys

First of all I'm going to give you a warning about using toys made for cats. Most cat toys have catnip in them or a catnip solution sprayed on then, and not listed on the packaging. This is to attract the cat to play with the toy. Catnip is very posinous to sugar gliders and can kill them within 24 hours.

This did happen to someone. They seen very cute cat toy. Read the label and didn't see any mention of catnip on the package. They figured that it would be safe for the gliders then. The store have enough of these toys to put in all their cage except one cage, so they bought them. They put the toys in all the cages but one. In the morning they got up to find all the cages that had the new toy in them the gliders were dead. They told the store what happened and they told them about the catnip solution the manufactors put on toys that they can't put catnip in.

I have spent money on expensive toys for the gliders, only to find they have no interest is them. So I got 3" PVC pipe connectors that would fit together (y's and elbows, just don't glue them to-gether or they will be hard to clean) to make tunnels. Take a kleenex box, cut thin stripes of paper crumple them up and fill the box for the gliders to play in (you can put treats in for them to find). Use your imagination, just make sure that it would be safe. That they can't get stuck in, or little things that they can get caught their throat (their throat is only about the size of a toothpick).
